YOGA & FLY   TAPALPA MEXICO

Nov 15 - 23, 2023
Tapalpa, Mexico

This all women's paragliding adventure is the culmination of a dream: to bring female pilots together to share the sky and connect through yoga while immersed in the beauty of the Colombian culture and landscape.

We fly together as a family, recognizing that each person’s unique perspective enriches the group as a whole. Paragliding is deeply personal, and we bring that mentality into the adventure, sharing knowledge, airtime, and experience in a supportive and inclusive environment designed to help you on your flying journey. Instrument setup, flight planning, strategy, reading the sky, thermalling, gaggle flying, and cross country are just a few of the areas of focus for growth.

This tour is designed to be as all inclusive and stress free as possible. You can arrive with the peace of mind knowing that all logistics and details are taken care of:  simply focus on flying. This trip is perfect for beginner-intermediate pilots ready to accelerate their paragliding progression with a comprehensive approach encompassing mind, body, and skill development.

Flying Site

Tapalpa is a scenic mountain town nestled in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains of Jalisco, Mexico, a few hours southwest of Guadalajara. it sits at an elevation of roughly 2,000 meters, offering cool alpine weather, cobblestone streets, whitewashed colonial buildings with red-tiled roofs, and rich local food.

The launch is a world-class, official recreational and commercial flying sport renowned for hosting international competitions, but is still an overlooked gem. It sits on a sweeping mesa ridge within the Sierra del Tigre mountain range and features a wide, grassy meadow with a gentle slope towards the valley with a stunning view. The broad clearing provides ample room, approachable top landing, and excellent XC opportunities

In recent years Tapalpa has been overlooked by many free-flight visitors to Mexico, who have tended to head to of Valle de Bravo instead, but the pilots who have flown Tapalpa can’t see why. They say Tapalpa has great flying, the site doesn’t tend to blow out over lunchtime like it does in Valle, and the infrastructure can’t be beaten.

Paragliding Yoga

with Shelley Fluke

I first discovered yoga in 2012 while recovering from knee surgery and have been a loyal practitioner ever since.  After having practiced all over the world while working on yachts throughout my 20s, I landed in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and began my teacher training program in 2020 at the Amalam School of Yoga.  I went into this experience with a primary goal of deepening and enriching my own practice, not intending to teach, but throughout the journey, I fell in love with teaching and guiding other practitioners.

I began flying both paragliders and hang gliders in 2020 as well, so yoga and flying have always felt deeply connected to me.  Both require us to know and trust ourselves, to be fully present, and to move with intention and awareness.  By practicing yoga, we cultivate the mental and physical preparedness that flying demands.

I look forward to developing a shared sense of strength and stillness together on our mats that we can bring directly to the air.  We’ll engage in vinyasa-based, Iyengar-influenced sequences with intention at the heart of every movement, while also leaving room for breathwork and experimentation.  To me, yoga can be grounding and focused but also fun and playful, just like flying!
